This Friday, the Third Criminal Chamber rejected the appeals against the elected governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camachofor the case called fire truck and ratified his preventive detention for 90 days, a period that has already expired.

He lawyer Martín Camacho reported that the virtual hearing, which took place on Friday, was for appeal precautionary measures that the first anti-corruption judge, Roberto Parada Mole, imposed on him on June 5, 2023.

On that occasion, the judge ordered detention for 90 days of Governor Luis Fernando Camacho, for the crime of breach of duties due to the alleged irregular purchase of this vehicle. However, the Prosecutor’s Office had requested that detention be ordered for 180 days.

“As the 180 days of detention were not ordered, they appealed: the Public Ministry, the Ministry of Government, the Vice Ministry of Transparency and Fight Against Corruption, and the complaining party, who are the deputies of the Movement towards Socialism (MAS) Hernán Hinojosa and Rolando Cuellar. However, the Third Criminal Chamber rejected the appeal and upheld the 90 days of detention,” explained lawyer Martín Camacho.

The jurist explained that the 90-day detention period has already been expired more than 300 days ago, so now he hopes that the court will set a date for a new hearing for the elected governor of the Santa Cruz department, in which he will ask for his freedom to be granted.

“At the hearing this Friday, the member of the criminal court also denied our appeal, since considered that there is still a procedural risk in force against the governor,” he explained.
