CEV expressed its condolences to the relatives of migrants run over in Texas

The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) published a statement in which it joined the pain of the relatives of the migrants run over in Texas. The number of deceased migrants rose to eight, after one of those who were injured died in the health center to which he was transferred


The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) expressed its condolences to the families of the migrants run over in the town of Texas, USA, this Sunday, May 7.

“We also sympathize with the injured who are still in a local health center. We look forward to his speedy recovery,” the message reads.

Similarly, they made a call to the governments of the countries and international organizations. “It is urgent to protect migrants and immediately implement comprehensive policies that respond to the mobility crisis that our region is experiencing.”

The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference reiterated its commitment so that the rights of migrants are respected and respect for the dignity of each person prevails.

“We invite you to offer prayers and suffrages for the eternal rest of the deceased and we implore the speedy recovery of the wounded. May the protection of Mary, companion on the way, cover each brother who travels to other countries seeking better living conditions.

The migrants were run over while they were outside the Obispo Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center, in the Texas city of Brownsville, waiting for a transport that would take them to other states, including New York. They were sitting at the bus stop when a Land Rover van rammed into them killing at least seven people instantly.

Among the victims were several Venezuelans, who died after the impact of a car.
