Berta Soler and Ángel Moya released after suffering another arbitrary arrest in Havana

MIAMI, United States. — Cuban opponents Berta Soler, leader of the Ladies in White, and Ángel Moya, a former political prisoner, were released this Monday after being arrested the day before by the political police.

Soler and Moya were arbitrarily intercepted as they left their home in Lawton, which serves as the national headquarters of the Ladies in White, and taken separately to two police stations.

“Live Christ the King! Down with the dictatorship! Down with Díaz-Canel!” the activists shouted before being detained by agents from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) dressed in civilian clothes who carried a banner of Cuban dictator Raúl Castro.

As Angel Moya announced in his Facebook profile, Berta Soler was transferred to a police unit in the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón. She there she was confined in a cell until six in the morning today. She came out with a fine of 30 Cuban pesos.

Moya was detained for the same period of time and received two fines: one of 7.50 Cuban pesos and another of 30.

Both were released on public roads at a point near their home.

“Around 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., the State Security repressors freed us on public roads and near the headquarters of the Ladies in White, first Berta and then me,” Moya said.

The activist pointed out that the fines against him and his wife “are the result of the criminalization by the Cuban communist regime of the right to demonstrate.”

It was the 28th arrest suffered by opponents so far this year, almost all of them occurred in front of the national headquarters of the Ladies in White.
