BCU warns against use of its logo on illegal financial documents

The Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU), made two warnings about the use of its logo on documents issued by two firms that offer financial services, and that are not registered or authorized to operate by the regulator.

One refers to the entity or person that acts under the name of “Artiandes Cooperative”, “Artiandes” or Coopartiandes.

as i knew The Observer, this firm also uses without authorization logos and communication elements similar to those of Cooperativa Artigas. In addition, it asks for money in advance that must be deposited in the payment networks as a requirement to obtain a loan.

The other entity is “CrediConsorcio.uy”, “Financiera Consorcio SA” or “Coopconsorcio”, whose activity the BCU already warned weeks ago.

The BCU noted that Both “Cooperativa Artiandes” and “Financiera Consorcio SA” are not authorized to use their logo.

In addition, he recalled that the bank “does not intervene in the commercial operations of third parties or participate in the offering of their products or services, nor does it sponsor any entity.”

The BCU pointed out that the inclusion of its logo misleads users regarding the legal status of the entity and within the scope of regulation and supervision.

Therefore, it urges the public to be cautious around credit offers that present, in particular, the following characteristics:

• Documentation supposedly issued by the financial regulator and supervisor, or with its iso-logo, is presented.

• The people or companies that offer the credit are not registered with the Central Bank of Uruguay.

• The prior disbursement of money is requested.

• There is no physical location for the company or the indicated address does not correspond to it.

“In the face of this type of offer, it is suggested to seek to obtain clear, truthful, timely and sufficient information from the service provider, its reputation as well as the operations and conditions to which it will be subject.; in particular, prior to providing money in the face of a credit application, documents, information on bank accounts, passwords or any other personal data that requires prior informed consent for its treatment by third parties ”, he added.

Likewise, it is suggested to the public that in order to find out if the company is registered or has authorization or authorization to operate by the Superintendency of Financial Services of the BCU, consult the records available on the bank’s institutional website.
