Alfredo Pacheco guarantees consensus with the JCE in electoral projects

Santo Domingo.-The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, guaranteed that there will be an agreement between the National Congress and the Central Electoral Board (JCE), in relation to the Electoral Law and Political Parties, Groups and Movements, which this entity submitted, to its modification.

Pacheco, who was interviewed by journalists at the inauguration of the new Center for the Expedition of Records and Certificates, on the first level of Gallery 360, organized by the JCE, said that the entity that administers the electoral processes has the capacity for legislative initiatives.

Pacheco recalled that for more than a year in the Chamber of Deputies the Electoral Code is being discussed, from which different suggestions are expected and, recently, the JCE submitted the aforementioned projects for reform.

”Even last Monday a public hearing was held that was not improvised, it had been called for a long time, which gives us the opportunity to have a clearer idea of the things that are needed to be able to provide the country with a modern electoral regime that governs the part prior to the elections, from today until the primaries come and another project that leads the administration of the electoral process itself, “he said.

In that sense, he said that less than 15 days ago the JCE established its position by submitting to the Senate the draft Electoral Law and Political Parties, Groups and Movements, for its modification, of which it deposited copies in the Chamber of Deputies.

“Now we, through the JCE Commission, will have to see what the Board has ordered, the Senate is studying the projects, because she, in her capacity as a parliamentary initiative, decided that she was going to send it through the Senate and we have to respect the decision of the JCE and, the Senate is working on the study of these two initiatives”, said Pacheco.

He argued that both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies may agree to provide the country with the best initiatives in the organic electoral plan that the Dominican Republic needs.

The President of the Chamber of Deputies pointed out that the day before the different political parties attended the Economic and Social Center and established their position for the solution that must be achieved both in the pre-election part, which is in the Law of Parties, Political Groups and Movements such as the administration of the process, which is the Electoral Regime Law.

Pacheco stated that the Electoral Code studied by the Chamber of Deputies will serve as an important tool for the projects deposited by the JCE, which will have preeminence in the decisions of the legislators, since it is the entity that administers the electoral process.
