Activists linked to Chavismo suggested that a exchange with the United States that results in the release of Alex Saab in exchange for US prisoners detained in recent years in the South American country.
“Here in Venezuela there are a number of American detainees serving sentencesome for wanting to attempt against the president’s life, others for economic crimes committed against the nation, etc. (…), if an exchange is achieved, excellent, because we bring back our diplomat”, said Roi López, spokesman for the movement ‘Free Alex Saab’.
Previously, Venezuela released two Americans after members of the Biden administration visited Caracas for what an exchange could be among the possibilities of agreement between both nations.
Chavismo froze the negotiations it was holding with the opposition during 2021 after Saab’s extradition to the United States.
