Use of masks in schools will be optional, says Meduca

Starting this Monday, May 11, the use of the mask in schools will be optional, as reported by the Ministry of Education (Meduca) by ensuring that anyone who wishes to continue using the mouth cover can do so. “It is optional and also parents who want their children to continue using the masks or not can also do so,” the entity said.

The Meduca assured that it is of the utmost importance to assess the interrelation between the members of the educational community, the periods of time within the classrooms and their ventilation, the number of infections in the community, large groups with little distance, among others. , as these keep the risk of the appearance of infectious diseases such as the flu and, currently, Covid-19, for which we recommend that the biosafety committees of educational centers keep their protocol updated.

Through Executive Decree No.101 of July 1, 2022, the Minsa ordered to lift the mandatory use of the mask by Covid-19 as a sanitary measure throughout the national territory as of July 11, 2O22.

The Meduca formed the National Institutional Covid-19 Committee and the Regional Committees (Resolution 37 of May 15, 2020), Covid-19 School Committees (Resolution 100 of September 11, 2020, repealed by Resolution 164 of March 4, 2022 ), who are in charge of monitoring, follow-up and surveillance of the implementation of biosafety measures in official and private schools throughout the national territory.

We ask you to comply with the pertinent measures to reduce the risk of contagion of any infectious disease such as influenza, Covid-19 or monkeypox.

We appreciate staying vigilant and complying with the measures established in the school biosafety protocols and invite you to reinforce the following recommendations:
– Teaching and raising awareness in the educational community in general, about the importance of going to health posts in case of any symptoms associated with the flu, Covid-19 or Monkeypox.
– Monitoring of symptoms related to the flu or suspected cases of Covid-19 or Monkeypox.
– Permanently maintain hand washing and personal hygiene programs.
– Continue with vaccination campaigns for influenza or Covid-19.
