The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, ratified this Monday, May 1, Day of the Workertheir commitment and dedication to the working class Venezuelan, by guaranteeing with effort and sacrifice their labor rights.

Through his account on the social network Twitter, the national president expressed his pride for having left the ranks of the country’s working class, “I am the President of the Venezuelan working class,” he stressed.

“How proud I feel to say: I am the President of the Venezuelan working class! I come from their struggles and because of them I keep going. I am sure that the sacrifice, the effort and the battle have not been in vain”, published the Head of State on Twitter.

For President Nicolás Maduro, this May 1, Workers’ Day, “it’s not just today, it’s every day, because the working class is aware of its commitment to the country and the anti-imperialist struggle led by the Bolivarian Revolution.

“Worker’s Day is not only today, it is every day, because the Working Class is aware of its responsibility to the Revolution and is committed to the anti-imperialist struggle, that is the essence of our Socialist Homeland. Long live the Working People!”, said the national President on the social network.

In the message published by President Maduro, the affirmation of Commander Chávez stands out, who at the time stressed that liberation is given by implementing socialism, which is the society of the working class and the possible happiness of the majority.

Demonstrations in Caracas

On the occasion of commemorating this Day of the Worker and the achievements achieved during the years of the Bolivarian Revolution, and despite the sanctions imposed by the United States government and allied countries, thousands of Venezuelans will mobilize this Monday through the streets of Caracas.

The call was made by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) on its Twitter social network account, where they detailed that this march is also in support of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

“On International Workers’ Day we take to the streets of Caracas in support of our worker president Nicolás Maduro,” the PSUV published on Twitter.

In addition, they reported that there will be two concentration points: one in the Ali Primera park to the west of the city; and the other at the headquarters of the state-owned telecommunications company CANTV, on Avenida Libertador, starting at 1 in the afternoon.

Labor Day

Since 1936, Worker’s Day has been commemorated in Venezuela, but it was in 1945 when then-President Isaías Medina Angarita decreed May 1 as the date to honor the fight for labor rights.

It should be remembered that International Worker’s Day dates back to May 1, 1886, when more than 350,000 workers in the city of Chicago, in the United States, paralyzed production by taking to the streets to demand better working conditions.

With the slogan “Starting today, only eight hours a day, not one more”, the Chicago workers began a massive revolutionary movement that would leave a balance of 38 dead and 115 injured, but would also mark a milestone in the anti-capitalist struggle.

A short time later, the Ingersoll Act was promulgated by US President Andrew Johnson, which established an eight-hour workday. The measure would be extended to 19 states of that country, to later be applied throughout the world.
