The Ombudsman’s Office and the Popular University of the Environment “Fruto Vivas” (UPAFV), held the EcoEvent to commemorate the declaration of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN), recognizing the human right of access to an environment healthy.
This conference had as speakers the Special Delegate Defender with National Competence in Environmental Matters of the Ombudsman’s Office, Xiomara Cuevas.
Also present were the Academic Vice-Chancellor of the “Fruto Vivas” Popular Environmental Unit, Alfredo Guzmán, and the Director of Dissemination of Training for Ecosocialism, David Álvarez.
During the event, the exhibitors addressed the existence of environmental human rights, starting from the first instrument that established the guidelines and principles of environmental law through the Stockholm Declaration, approved by the UN General Assembly in 1972.
Others approved later were also included, such as the Rio Declaration and the Johannesburg Declaration.
However, Venezuela is not far behind in terms of constitutional norms related to the environment. So far there are a total of 55 articles related to this issue, the Ombudsman reported in a press release.
