Zaldívar: the documentary seeks to make visible the problem of femicide
For the minister president of the SCJN, Arturo Zaldívar, the idea of the series is to make visible the problem of femicide in Mexico. “Put the focus where the problems are, which are the local prosecutors.”
The foregoing, remembering that the majority of femicides are local crimes, not federal ones, therefore they correspond to the state prosecutor’s offices, “and that is where the work that should be done is not being done due to laziness, irresponsibility, negligence. , due to corruption, there may be many factors, but as a general rule, femicides are not investigated.”
Zaldívar Lelo de Larrea makes it clear that the objective of the material “is not to make a story about a serial femicide, but to use that story to generate a reflection on the drama of homicides in Mexico. Around eleven women a day kill in this country.”
During the premiere of the documentary held this Monday at the Cana Justicia TV headquarters, he clarified that it also seeks to generate reflection; “a collective alliance between society and authorities at all levels of government to try to advance solutions on this sensitive issue.”
It is, he says, a “very careful” material and it was sought not to re-victimize the victims. “It is not an apology of the criminal, but it is about generating a reflection before anything else.”
Minister Zaldiva recognizes the importance of prevention and investigation in this type of case, given that “the majority of femicides in Mexico are not investigated and when they are, they are poorly investigated.”
In addition, families are revictimized and if it is a media issue, the authorities try to get out as soon as possible and on many occasions, hold the victims responsible because “they were dressed in miniskirts, they had drunk, because they were with the boyfriend, because friends left them or because they are in disunited families, blaming the victim and since there are no costs, nothing happens”, he explains.
