The YPF company incorporated “Colossus”, a state-of-the-art “firefighter robot” that resists 800 degrees of temperature, has the capacity to climb stairs, work autonomously for twelve hours and tow, drag and push up to a ton of weight, reported the oil firm.
The new robot “is the only one of its kind in Latin America” and was tested during a fire drill carried out in the industrial complex located in the Buenos Aires town of Cove, attended by Buenos Aires and municipal authorities.

During the operation, a state-of-the-art Ford 4000 4 x 4 truck was also presentedbuilt especially to meet the needs of YPF and based on similar equipment designs used in the United States.
The vehicle Features a high flow monitor which is controlled remotely, while in motion it can throw 15,000 liters of water per minute, with an approximate range of 100 meters, and enter areas inaccessible to pumpers.
The exercise was attended by the mayor of Ensenada, Mario Secco; the director of Civil Defense of the province of Buenos Aires, Fabián García, the secretary of Security and Justice of Ensenada, Martín Slobodian; the director of Civil Defense of Ensenada, Ricardo Arenas.

What is Colossus like?
“Colossus” is made of aeronautical aluminum alloy, a condition that gives it great strength and allows it to withstand temperatures of around 800°C.
In the same way, it allows its control and transmission of images at distances greater than 1.2 km. It has six HD video cameras, including a thermographic one. It allows control of water/foam flows of up to 3,000 liters/min, with a range of more than 60 meters, and has modular versatility for different uses with the addition of accessories, YPF indicated.
