The mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi, published on his social networks on Tuesday night a video in which he addresses the residents of the department to explain the rise in the Service Rate that is used for management of waste.
According to the Canarian mayor, “this value had not been increased for more than 20 years, and updating the rate allows us to continue improving and modernizing garbage collection, environmental management itself.”
Orsi said that his administration coincides with what is established in the National Waste Management Plan, presented by the Minister of the Environment, Adrián Peña. “There it is established as a line of action, on page 527, the strengthening and development of economic instruments for management, considering rates as a fundamental element. For this reason, we consider it essential to update these values”, continued Orsi.
“It should be clarified that the Real Estate Contribution did not undergo any type of modification in its values other than the necessary update by the CPI (Consumer Price Index). But beyond these considerations, we are aware that in some places in the department, this rate had too much impact, basically on the coast,” added the mayor.
cap on increase
Based on proposals received, he said, and a rereading of his original idea, they decided to “cap” the increase. “We have resolved that, in no case will the increase in this rate be greater than $4,000 per year, or in other words, a maximum increase limit of $333 per month,” he announced.
Those neighbors who have already paid with increases above the limit, will generate a credit in their favor, according to the mayor.
