Carlos Suárez, president of the UCV Workers Union, explained that since 2022 when the workers received the vacation bonus under the Onapre instructive, “there was a decrease in said bonus.”

“Due to the non-increase in wages, we can say that last year we earned 352 bolivars on scale 3 of the salary table, this year it will be 52 dollars, so they are taking about 200 dollars from each worker (…) This is a scam and a real robbery,” he said.

He emphasized that this reality is also lived by all public employees in the country, “not only those of the UCV.”

The workers of the UCV asked that the Government rectify and take the side of the workers of the public administration.

For his part, José Bastidas, General Secretary of the UCV Workers Union, criticized that Nicolás Maduro calls himself the worker president and, on the other hand, the workers who take to the streets to protest for their rights are mistreated and detained.

“The right that is not fought for is lost,” said the unionist who emphasized that he will remain in the streets.

Eduardo Sánchez, president of the National Union of Workers of the UCV denounced that the workers are paid prorated, which means that if the employee has several jobs, the cestaticket is given to them in parts.

He pointed out that the most affected by this situation are the health area workers who, in general, work in several places.

Regarding the protest agenda, the workers of different unions of the UCV assured that they will remain in the streets. “The next call will be for Monday in front of the Ministry of Basic Industries,” they said.
