half century
Galvis, born in the province of Florida, says that this exhibition is something special in his life. “Like when one suddenly stops moving forward in life and begins to look back for a moment. ANDIt is a reflection on what one did, what one lived and what one is living, and also some ideas that may come”Galvis said.

The five rooms of Manzana 1 will host the Galvis exhibition, made up of 45 paintings from his different formative periods.
“These are quite varied works in terms of style. I started painting when I was 15 years old, so I have works that are more than 50 years old. Then there are other works from the first period of 10 years that I lived in Santa Cruz, after 10 years that I was residing in La Paz and again in Santa Cruz”, explained Galvis.

Costumbrismo is one of the themes that marks the work of this author. “I always liked the theme of the Bolivian East, some of those paintings, dating from the 60s, are scenarios where I interacted and mixed as a character in the paintings,” Galvis said.

The holy blade?
The exhibition object of desire in gallery Kiosko brings together the artists Alejandra Alarcón, Rodrigo Alarcón, José Ballivián, Galo Coca, Alejandra Delgado, Alejandra Dorado, Douglas Rodrigo Rada, Alfredo Román Bulacio, Gaston Ugalde and Roberto Unterladstaetter.

It is a retrospective exhibition of works that involve the coca plant and its political-social repercussions in Bolivia.. The curator is Douglas Rada.

“To select the works I did what I normally do: I look for a theoretical framework of old works and I captured some that seemed interesting to me and that had already caught my attention. From there comes a very conflictive work called Coca, jam and other myths, by José Ballivián, which seems to me to be a classic and very important work for the Bolivian context,” said Rada, who commented that since last year he had been communicating with different generations of artists, “both those who are around 60 years old and others under 30 to make up this exhibition”.

The artist and curator mentions that coca has become part of everyday life, not only political but also social in the country.and in
object of desire the ten artists explore this from different formats, from interventions to photographs and videos.
“The coca leaf is a complex phenomenon,” argues Rada.
