Women: another day to highlight their equality and achievements

Women in their historical struggle to achieve equal rights to study, work, to exercise their votes, among others, have led decades of struggle and efforts to assert their voices. Every March 8 their day is celebrated internationally, a special day to highlight their empowerment and participation in all spheres.

And it is that they give everything, whether from an office desk, taking care of public order, in front of a classroom of students, in the field, at the helm of a bus, a taxi or piloting and also on a podium in a political event. In these years of pandemic, women scientists have been recognized for their role in innovation and science.

There are very few contexts today in which the macho ideology minimizes their capacity and role, to fit them into archaic molds that superimposed men as a superior race over them. Women and girls throughout the entire planet Earth have gained equality by breaking all kinds of cultural and social barriers.

Girls and boys, women and men, all in the same line today achieve such a balance in which we all see each other equally, there is no reason for them to feel inferior, weak and incapable. They don’t feel less because they are women, nor because they are black. We are all the same, mothers, warriors, with the power to never defeat each other.

After decades of celebrating this day, it was not until 1975 that the United Nations (UN) recognized the date, commemorated by millions of women. However, according to the Radio Reloj station, in Cuba since 1931, when Gerardo Machado’s mandate prevailed, the day was celebrated, a recognition of working women.

The central theme of the anniversary for this year according to the UN is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, since “climate change represents one of the most controversial global challenges of the 21st century, with a serious impact on economic development , social and environmental of nations”.

Likewise, said organization stressed that “considering that they are the most marginalized and vulnerable sector of the population, it is intended to recognize the valuable contribution of girls and women in the mitigation and adaptation of climate change worldwide. This will achieve a more sustainable future for all the inhabitants of the planet”.
