This Tuesday, the Chamber of Senators began with the treatment of the pension reform bill carried out by the government of Luis Lacalle Pou, and backed by the multicolored coalition, but rejected by both the bulk of the workers’ unions and the Front Large.
Although the extraordinary session was called for 9:30 a.m., the lack of a quorum among the coalition legislators delayed it by more than an hour and a half. The National Party bench assured that they were waiting for legislator Gloria Rodríguez to arrive, in order to complete the necessary 16 seats, so she arrived at around 11 in the morning.
At that time, the Broad Front informed the press that it would wait for the coalitionists to form a quorum, and that only then would they enter the room. “One hour after the session was called, the @SenadoUy is without a quorum because the ruling party does not have enough senators in the room to meet. It is tradition that the quorum is defined by the government. This is how they become responsible for the pension reform project, ”wrote the FA on his official Twitter account at 10:24 p.m.

Before the clock reached 1:00 p.m., the Frente Amplio senator, Alejandro ‘Pacha’ Sánchez finished his speech that unleashed a long round of applause and chants from dozens of people who were at the bar.
Shouting “the united people will never be defeated!”, the people who caused the president of the Chamber of Senators, Beatriz Argimón, to order that the space be completely emptied, began to come out. A few minutes after 1:00 p.m., the session resumed.
This Monday, the coalition reached an agreement for the project to be voted on as it is, without changes, and for the pending issues to be debated in the Chamber of Deputies.
