The World Health Organization (WHO) announced this Friday, May 5, the end of the global emergency for covid-19, after three years of its spread.
This was announced by the director general of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, after the organization’s emergency committee met the day before for the fifteenth time to analyze the current situation of the pandemic, which in more than three years has affected the less than 765 million people and has caused the death of some 20 million.
However, the WHO warns that this announcement should not imply that the world lowers its guard against covid-19 because it assured that the threat continues and is latent.
“As we speak, thousands of people around the world are fighting for their lives in intensive care units. And millions more continue to live with the debilitating effects of the post covid-19 condition,” said Tedros Adhanom, while insisting that the virus continues to mutate and change.
