What happened to the labor market figures in March?

The employment rate in March was 57.3% of the population of working age, two tenths higher than the record for the same month last year.

The figure is equivalent to 1,672,300 employed, according to data released this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Meanwhile, unemployment for the month was 8.6%, from 8.1% in February and 7.8% year-on-year.

The Economist, aldo mottopointed out that in March the (seasonally adjusted) recovery of the number of employed persons in Uruguay continued, although unemployment rose due to a greater increase in the labor force.

For his part, CPA Ferrere economist, Nicholas Cichevski, He explained on his Twitter account that during March the labor market continued to show “good performance.”

He explained that the employment rate recovered the level at the beginning of 2022 and that of activity, strongly affected during the pandemic, continues to increase and reaches the level of 2018-19.

At the same time, the percentage of informally employed continues to fall, which is around 20%, he said.
