Veteran Danel Castro breaks record for hits in Cuban baseball

Danel Castro became this Wednesday the player with the most hits in the tournaments of baseball held in Cuba when connecting his unstoppable 2,379 during the first of the clashes held on the day between the teams of Plants and Ports, corresponding to the I Cuban Baseball Elite League (LEBC).

The 46-year-old player born in the eastern province of Tunas He took advantage of his first turn at bat to connect the home run with which he equaled the previous level in that department, until now held by Havanan Enrique Díaz.

On his second visit to the batting box at the Nélson Fernández stadium, in the Mayabe municipality of San José de las Lajas, Danel inscribed his name in the baseball record books on the island by hitting a hit to center field that became another home run inside the field, according to several press reports.

Danel has in his file participation in 28 editions of the National Series, and presence in a Revolution Cup and three Super Leagues, in addition to the current Elite League in which he plays with the Centrales shirt.

Throughout his career he has traditionally defended the colors of the Leñadores de Las Tunas, but he has also represented teams from Artemisa, Holguín, Villa Clara and Camagüey, in addition to having been part of the national team on some occasions.

He currently has a career offensive average of .309, and has 244 home runs and 1,305 RBIs, according to official statistics.
