The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejected the United States’ decision to extend the inclusion of the Republic of Cuba in the “arbitrary” list of countries that sponsor terrorism in the world, something that will bring more complications to the island’s economy.
In the text, published by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, Caracas described the decision as an “infamous measure that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of the Cuban people and the legacy of its revolution, recognized for its principles of solidarity, peace and international cooperation.”
Additionally, the statement calls attention to the “double standards of the US government, which has historically been complacent and permissive with terrorist expressions around the world, when these have served its hegemonic interests.”
He accused the Washington government and its predecessors of using these types of practices “to destabilize legitimate and sovereign governments, causing chaos and suffering to their people.”
Venezuela rejects that the United States uses these measures against Cuba, since it “lacks the moral authority” to arbitrarily include the island in its list of governments that promote terrorism, just when the island’s government “has demonstrated its commitment to peace.” , as in its support for the dialogue processes in Colombia.”
