The Chancellor of the Republic Yván Gil, carrying out instructions from President Nicolás Maduro, reported that Venezuela has activated a special attention operation for those displaced from the armed conflict in Colombia, who are beginning to arrive in our country.
Through his account on the Telegram social network, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that “through Civil Protection, the mayors of Jesús María Semprún (Zulia) and García de Hevia (Táchira), have activated a special operation to care for the “displaced civilian population from Colombia, who are forced to escape the terrible armed violence that has hit them.”
He stressed that our country “faithful to its commitment of brotherhood and solidarity with the Colombian people and government” will always be willing to “provide the humanitarian support required to the population recurrently affected by the scourge of war in the brother country.”
Among those received by the Venezuelan authorities are children, women and older adults, who have been provided with food, medicine, shelter and medical care in several shelters set up in an organized manner.
Clashes between members of the ELN armed groups and FARC dissidents have intensified in the binational border area, which has caused the forced displacement of hundreds of people to our country.
