“Although positive, it must be accompanied by the immediate lifting of the financial blockade that has been in place for more than 60 years,” urged national authorities.
The Government of Venezuela issued an official statement this Tuesday in which it celebrates the “limited decision” of the US Government to withdraw Cuba from the countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.
In the statement, published by Foreign Minister Yván Gil on his digital profiles, he adds that it was “an unfair designation that should never have been applied,” while, “although positive, it must be accompanied by the immediate lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that For more than 60 years it has deeply affected the Cuban people and has been rejected by the international community.”
“Cuba has been a victim of terrorism, not a promoter of it, and has demonstrated its commitment to peace and global solidarity,” the text reads.
On December 12, the Venezuelan Government issued a statement rejecting the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that support terrorism, in which the White House administration “applies double standards, when it has supported terrorist expressions that suit it.”
The United States informed Congress of its intention to withdraw the designation of Cuba as a country sponsor of terrorism, the White House announced this Tuesday.
