The Uruguayan Press Association (APU) has expressed concern about the potentially inappropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of the current electoral campaign in Uruguay.
In a recently issued statement, the APU Central Board of Directors highlighted the associated risks with the combination of this technology and the spread of fake news, especially in a period of crucial decisions for the future of the country.
The statement highlights the importance of adhering to the Ethical Pact against Disinformationratified by all political forces in April, and expresses concern regarding the negative consequences that could arise from irresponsible use of AI. The APU highlights that although AI has the potential to offer significant benefits to humanity, its misapplication can result in detrimental effects, as even its creators have recognized.
The APU also aligns with the guidelines of the Electronic Government and Information and Knowledge Society Agency (Agesic), which in a document presented to the Legislative Branch in July, advocates for a regulation of AI that encourages its ethical development, protect human rights, and promote technological innovation. These recommendations include essential aspects such as ethics, privacy, responsibility, transparency and non-discrimination.
The APU’s call is clear: in a time of political definitions, responsibility in the management of new technologies is more imperative than ever to ensure a clean and transparent electoral process.
The use of AI against Orsi in a journalistic program
This statement comes after the program Santo y Seña, by journalist Ignacio Álvarez, used a digital avatar, created with AI, of the presidential candidate of the Broad Front, Yamandú Orsi, to do so “debate” with the Colorado Andrés Ojeda.
The “fake” Orsi He was at a disadvantage before Ojeda due to the obvious impossibility of responding to questions and even ridicule. Álvarez himself came out to try to defend the decision to use this resource, after the wide spectrum of criticism.
“Neither ‘debate’ nor ‘fake interview’ with Orsi. What Holy Cross did was give Ojeda three public statements from the candidate so that he could give his opinion, as is done so many times, only this time with the explicit resource of artificial intelligence,” the communicator replied on his X account. com.
After having participated in this program, in which he also played bass in a song, and spoke outspokenly against Orsi, Ojeda came out this Tuesday to denounce an alleged “dirty campaign” against him.
“I publicly denounce a dirty campaign and fake news by Yamandú Orsi against me. They are spending thousands of dollars to smear me and dirty the campaign. It is an act of cowardice, he does not debate, but his advisor Mario Riorda floods the networks with dirty campaign and fake news against me. “They want to prevent us from going to the runoff at all costs,” the right-wing lawyer and politician published this Tuesday on his X.com account.
The animal hunter bride? Ojeda denies rumors
One of the news that circulated is that Ojeda would be in a relationship with a woman who would presumably be called Kelsey Claya name that could not be independently confirmed by this means. This name appears in internet search engine results in photos with dead exotic animals: She would be an avid professional hunter with trips to African countries to kill animals like the leopard she is seen with in a photo, but there is also video of her shooting wild birds with a shotgun.
Ojeda has not denied or confirmed whether or not there is a connection with said woman, and insists that this notorious showbiz is the dirty campaign against him, but he told Montevideo Portal that “he doesn’t have a partner” currently. The Colorado native has spoken in his campaign in favor of “animal welfare” with a spot in which “multispecies families” with purebred cats and dogs are seen.
The truth is that, on his visit to Santo y Seña, he was accompanied by a woman with blonde hair that Ignacio Álvarez defined as “the bodyguard.”
“Do you want to dedicate it to someone?” Álvarez asked him, when they were about to play the song. “I was waiting for her from here to there. “I saw her coming to the block,” Ojeda responded smilingly. Meanwhile, on the screen they showed images of the candidate in the company of a young blonde leaving an event.
“That bodyguard you have that accompanies you everywhere,” Álvarez continued. “Nice girl… I was asking you if you wanted to dedicate it to someone,” he added.
