After the digital payment provider dLocal became the first Uruguayan unicorn, Genexus CEO Nicolás Jodal sees that two or three other Uruguayan companies could join the select club of startups valued at more than US $ 1 billion.

This is how it is stated a note from Bloomberg which indicates that, for Jodal, these companies are likely to be specialized in fintech, games or electronic commerce.

The article recalls that the market capitalization of dLocal to more than US $ 10 billion, led to “investors -including Grupo Axo of Mexico, have since turned to local companies looking for potential clients beyond the country of 3 , 5 million people ”.

“There are several companies that are at least ponies or centaurs by valuation,” Jodal told Bloomberg. He added that the tech world is looking at Latin America. “We are in the right place with the right technology. I think this is the right time ”to consider external financing.

The article reports that Jodal has personally invested nearly US $ 1 million in Uruguayan startups.
