Uruguay exceeded 900 thousand historical cases of coronavirus

The Ministry of Public Health issued its third weekly report corresponding to monitoring the development of the coronavirus from May 1 to 7. Broadly speaking, an increase in the number of active cases and a drop in deaths could be seen.

Unlike the second report, in the last week the number of new infections grew and reached a total of 2,830 positive cases, against 1,867 the previous week. This represents almost 100 new cases.

The number of new cases was directly reflected in the number of active cases (people going through the disease) which reached 2,893 people. This translates to almost 900 more cases than in the week of April 24-30, when it was 2,095.

In the week of May 1 to 7, 23,634 coronavirus tests were carried out, about 600 if compared to the last record. With the increase in cases that tested positive in a similar number of tests performed, positivity (percentage of tests that are positive for coronavirus) also grew, in this case by three percentage points, to reach 10.8%.

More than 900 thousand cases

With the almost 3,000 infections in this period, the number of confirmed cases accumulated since 2020 exceeded the barrier of 900,000 to reach 902,540.

On the other hand, where there was a decrease was in the number of deaths that took place in seven days, which fell again and stood at three (six in the second report and eight in the first). The deaths occurred on May 1, 2 and 7.

At the date of the report, the occupation of the chambers of the intensive care centers (CTI) was 58.4%. However, the number of beds occupied by patients with coronavirus corresponds to only 1.3% of the total.
