Antel expanded its participation in the cell phone market to December 2021 and registers a growth of 128 thousand more services than at the end of 2020, according to a report that includes data from January, February and March of this year, disclosed by the Communication Services Regulatory Unit (URSEC). Antel leads the market with 47.4% market share as of December 2021 according to the Market Report. In the previous report, corresponding to June 2021, the figure was 46.7%.
From the state entity they explained in a statement that “this is a consequence of a growth of 6.1% year-on-year (December 2021 vs. December 2020) in the number of mobile services during 2021, which increased by 128,913 new services during 2021 from 2,096. 454 in December 2020 to 2,225,367 in December 2021.
The President of Antel, Gabriel Gurméndez, stated that “this growth in market share stems from professional management of the company that has placed its strategic focus on customer needs, betting on reaffirming its leadership, competitiveness, investment pulse and management resource efficient.”
Later, on his personal Twitter account, Gurméndez wrote: “We continue to grow! ANTEL once again grows in mobile market share. Today’s URSEC report raises our market share to 47.4%. In a highly competitive market, we reaffirm our leadership and customer preference”. And in a second publication he added: “The number of conventional mobiles grew by 128,913 services during 2021.”
Among other data published in the report released this Thursday 28 by the Regulatory Unit for Communication Services (URSEC), it is reported that in relation to the total Porting Requests by state (includes rejected), in the first quarter of 2022, there were 22,725 active, 14,346 rejected by the Database Administrator (ABD) and 12,417 rejected by the donor and 140 not active.
In addition, also in the first three months of the current year, in relation to porting, Antel has 9,594 active and 8,556 scheduled, Movistar has 7,488 active and 8,437 scheduled and Claro closes with 5,643 active and 5,732 scheduled.
