“The Accountability budget has been cut by 22% during this government period and we are very concerned about the campaign promises that have fallen by the wayside,” explained the leader.
In that sense, “a real budget for housing cooperatives” is demanded, and it is seen with “great concern” that it has been lowered from 5,000 homes to 2,700. In other words, there are 2,300 families that have not yet been able to register their houses.
In some cases, according to Tropiano, the cooperatives have been waiting since 2019 to be able to register and start the works, and he also said that throughout this government, “the budget is getting smaller and smaller and that harms the cooperatives.”
“We have a housing deficit in the cooperative movement of about 80,000 homes in previous five-year periods. In this it exceeds 100,000 homes,” said Tropiano, and said that he hopes that both the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the Ministry of Economy, “see cooperativism as a serious policy, a social policy, and that they contribute the necessary resources. to generate housing solutions.
