According to data released this Wednesday 24 by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the unemployment rate stood at 8.1% in July, which represents 144,400 unemployed throughout the country.
Unemployment is currently higher in the interior of the country, since it reaches 8.2%, in relation to the capital, which amounts to 7.9%, and marked a drop of three tenths of a percentage point compared to 8 .4% of last June.
For its part, the activity index managed to remain stable at 61.8%, while the employment index registered a slight increase from 56.7% to 56.8% from June to July. From these numbers it can be deduced that in the past month the employed persons were 1,647,900.
Among the characteristics presented by the report, it is estimated that 8.5% of people are underemployed (they are those who work less than 40 hours —on a regular basis), but want to work more hours and are available to do so, but do not they get more work. Meanwhile, non-registration to social security due to their main job (informal work) stands at 20.9%.
