The Central University of Venezuela (UCV) reaffirmed its willingness to contribute to the search for democratic solutions and urged respect for legal norms and human rights as fundamental pillars for the reconstruction of citizen trust in the country’s institutions.
The University Council of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) expresses its deep concern about the electoral crisis in the country, unleashed since last July 29 with the demonstrations against the official electoral results, which gave Nicolás Maduro as the winner without present the electoral records, but the opposition claims that Edmundo González won after verifying more than 85% of the electoral ballots.

The university also exposed the cases of high school graduates Anthony Granadillo and Armando Solís, from the faculties of Architecture and History, respectively, who continue to be held in the Tocorón Penitentiary Center, in the state of Aragua, since the days after the election on December 28. The UCV has tried to manage the release of these students, but has not been successful, which shows the critical state of fundamental rights in the country.
In its statement, the UCV demanded the immediate release of all people arbitrarily detained, in accordance with current constitutional and legal guarantees. In addition, he reiterated his commitment to the defense of democracy and the search for peaceful solutions that promote dialogue and respect among citizens.
