The participation of a Uruguayan delegation in one of the largest fairs in the world in the food sector, SIAL China 2023is special for two reasons: it is the first realization after the pandemic world covid 19 and coincides with the 35th anniversary of bilateral relations between Uruguay and what is currently the main market for several of its products.
This year’s SIAL China premiered this Thursday the 18th and will culminate this Saturday the 20th, in Shanghai, China, with a large Uruguayan participation, led by Fernando Mattos, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), and the president of the National Institute of Meats (INAC), Conrado Ferber.

SIAL China, a new world summit for the food industry, is held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and is an area that brings together 5,500 exhibitors, receives 180,000 visitors and considers 215,000 m2 of exhibition area. The thematic sectors that stand out are: the meat, poultry and sausage sector; milk sector; non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages sector; fish products sector; and generic food sector. The holding of various forums focused on the indicated sectors and others is an additional attraction, as are the areas for policy debate and commercial exchanges.
Uruguay has an institutional presence in SIAL China, with a stand undertaken by the INAC of 660 square meters, with 21 co-exhibiting companies and 15 companies of brockers, traders and actors from the meat chain that represent Uruguay and meat at the largest Asian fair.

At the official inauguration of SIAL China, Mattos (who started a series of tour on official mission to different destinations in the Asian giant) made a country presentation within the framework of a technical seminar on meat import regulations to that nation.
In this activity, he argued that agriculture is responsible for 50% of Uruguay’s exports, with emphasis on meat, pulp and soybeans, and China is the main trading partner that receives all these products.
Mattos began his presentation with an image of our productive country, showing the balance between raising cattle in the open air, with natural pastures and water available, natural resources that are carbon sequesters, and interaction with the people who produce in the fields. .
The INAC delegation that participates in the SIAL China fair is made up of Ferber; the delegates of the Board, José Manuel Mesa and Daniel de Mattos; the Marketing Manager, Josefina Valenti; the head of Market Access, Álvaro Pereira; and the specialist in Promotion, Cecilia Shaw. The head of the INAC office in Asia, Victoria Cai, joins the team that traveled from Uruguay.

The minister is accompanied by the person in charge of the Official Veterinary Inspection Services, Diego Domínguez; the director of International Affairs, Adriana Lupinacci; and the Director of Agricultural Services, Leonardo Olivera.
During the night of the first day of the fair, the traditional INAC reception for Uruguayan and Chinese businessmen was held to promote bilateral trade relations, with the participation of 300 people.
