On December 6, 2020, the former president of the Republic Tabaré Vázquez was fired by thousands of people in a funeral procession that left from Avenida 18 de Julio and Río Negro and arrived at the La Teja cemetery, in his hometown, where A crowd was waiting that added their respectful applause and a: “Until victory, always. Thanks Tabaré! ”.

This Monday, one year after the death of former President Vázquez, the team of his second government decided to remember him with a ceremony where his mortal remains rest, and give a plaque to the relatives.

“Those of us who had the honor of being part of the team of your second presidency, we remember you today and always with admiration and pride”, it reads on the plate

In this framework, the former vice president and former chancellor, Rodolfo Nin Nova, (a figure very close to Vázquez during his two governments), said that more than a tribute, they tried to honor the life of Tabaré

“Tabaré was not very fond of tributes, every time he was honored and received decorations he would say: ‘this is not for me, it is for the Uruguayan people,'” said Nin Novoa.

He added: “In the last 100 years, he was the best president that there has been in Uruguay. It carried out the most important economic, political and social transformations in the history of the country ”.

I always thought of those most in need

“When he told us ‘don’t give up’, he left us with such a strong legacy and commitment that I think we began to fulfill yesterday, with that magnificent vote of more than 120,000 people who went to renew the authorities of our political force and to see how We are again channeling this path towards a new government of the Broad Front, because the country needs a government of the Broad Front, a government that rather than thinking about the ‘gold mesh’, think about the truck of the laggards, that’s what it is all about “, he remarked the former secretary of state.

“It was a privilege that a man like Tabaré called us and asked us for help, that we shared the government with him. He was a team man, he asked everyone their opinion, every Monday we met to see how the government was going, all the issues interested him, and above all he gave his opinion ”, he recalled.

“I always thought of those most in need. The country misses you a lot, Tabaré ”, sentenced Nin Novoa with tears in her eyes.
