Today six years of the death of Jorge Batlle are remembered

Batlle had presented to the United Nations Human Rights Commission a draft resolution questioning the human rights situation in the Cuban country and requested that a representative of the international organization be sent to the island to study the situation. In response to these statements, the Uruguayan president decided to break relations, formalizing the break the day after Castro’s remarks. They would be normalized in 2005 with the coming to power of President Tabaré Vázquez.
