The criminals took belongings valued at approximately $30,000.

The theft occurred in the early morning hours, while no one was home. Only in the afternoon, a neighbor noticed that a gate had been forced and a window was open, so he alerted the former senator. Upon arriving at the scene, Carrera noted the absence of several valuable items, including a laptop, a video game console, bottles of whiskey and other items.

The Police are investigating the details of the robbery and how the criminals managed to access the place.

Other recent cases

Carrera, who resigned from his seat in the Senate in September after prosecutor Silvia Porteiro’s request for immunity in the Víctor Hernández case, joins the list of political leaders who are victims of crime.

In November, the former Minister of Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres, was assaulted in the Malvín neighborhood while returning from the closing ceremony of the government coalition’s campaign. A month later, the nationalist senator Graciela Bianchi was robbed at the door of her house in Prado.

The former senator, who is a member of the Popular Participation Movement (MPP) and was director of the Secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior during a Broad Front government, has not made public statements so far about the incident.
