They occupy 359 packets of cocaine in Barahona

A shipment of 359 packages of cocaine was seized this morning after a pursuit of a speedboat, in which two Dominicans and one Venezuelan were traveling. They were all arrested.

Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), the Dominican Navy and the Dominican Air Force participated in the operation that was carried out on the coast of Enriquillo, in Barahona.

A note from the DNCD indicates that the persecution was carried out by air, sea and land that lasted for fifteen hours.

This is the second seizure in recent days in Barahona.

The three detained men were identified by the authorities as the Dominicans Henry Álvarez de la Rosa and Máximo Cabrera de los Santos and the Venezuelan Jonathan Manuel Rodríguez, who arrived in Enriquillo, Barahona aboard a boat presumably from Colombia.

The 23-foot-long boat, equipped with two 75-horsepower engines each, is in the possession of the judicial authorities of Barahona, as well as several jugs of gasoline, three vests, a cooler and other objects found in the inside the boat.

The two Dominicans and the Venezuelan remained in the custody of the Barahona Prosecutor’s Office, while the 359 packages of cocaine were transferred to the Institute of Forensic Sciences, amid a strong contingent of soldiers and members of the DNCD.

It was said that in order to intercept the drug-carrying launch, the Dominican Navy had two powerful boats, while helicopters from the Dominican Air Force illuminated the military and DNCD agents until they captured the two Creoles and the Venezuelan.

This is the second shipment of cocaine seized by the authorities in recent days on the coast of Enriquillo, Barahona, which Dominicans and foreigners try to sneak into the country aboard speedboats from Colombia.

First seizure

The first seizure involved 323 packets of cocaine and in that operation, which also took place in the Enriquillo area, Barahona, three men were arrested and against whom the authorities had already applied a coercive measure.

Due to the frequent bombardment of drug shipments from South America, the DNCD, the Dominican Navy and the strong support of the security agencies and the Public Ministry, have had to reinforce surveillance in the South and East of the country.

As a consequence of this reinforcement, the blows that the organisms have given during this year to the groups of national and foreign drug traffickers have been forceful, from whom, in addition to boats and drugs, the authorities have also seized millionaire assets.
