This Thursday, they honored the educator and philosopher Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa, at the headquarters of the Legislative Branch.
The activity was headed by the first vice president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante, who highlighted the contributions of Prieto Figueroa in the creation of the Venezuelan educational model.
“Today, January 16, 2025, an extraordinary event takes place in the history of our country, the vindication of someone who, without a doubt, was a statesman, an exemplary man, a man who deserves to have his remains go to the National Pantheon,” he stated.
On behalf of the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, of the deputies of the National Assembly, Infante welcomed the relatives of Prieto Figueroa, among whom were Gonzalo Prieto Oliveira, Delfina Prieto Oliveira, Olga Prieto Cruz, Ana María Rodríguez and Gilberto Jiménez, general secretary of the People’s Electoral Movement (MEP) and grandson of teacher Prieto Figueroa.
In his words, Infante highlighted that Pietro fought for an educational system without exclusions. “The teacher created the doctrine of the teaching State that at that time confronted the doctrines of the church and capitalist sectors that proposed the privatization and commercialization of education.”
He recalled that Pietro was the creator of the National Institute for Socialist Training and Education (INCES), to rescue the idea of educating so that our people could learn tools.
“Prieto goes to the Pantheon for his great work in our country in terms of education, he goes because he made great contributions to the construction of our State, of a new educational model,” he indicated.
The activity at the headquarters of the Legislative Branch is the first stop on the route of the remains of Beltran Prieto Figueroa to the National Pantheon.
