The tobacco and rum exports have an important weight in the country’s economy, and in 2021 the tobacco and substitutes sector had a growth of 31.9%a total amount of US$1,236.14 million.
And in the period January and April 2022, exports they were US$384.67 million. The main export destinations in 2021 were the United States, with US$1,002.27 million.
Likewise, Puerto Rico and Germany with US$53.28 million and US$41.08 million respectively, according to figures from the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana).

Rum has sustained constant growth for several years.
In 2021 the rum and derivatives sector marked its recovery with an export value of US$111.9 million.
Also, the preliminary amount for the period January-April 2022 reached US$40.72 million.
