They award 10 thousand national and international scholarships

The Government ordered today the delivery of 10 thousand national and international scholarships to benefit an equal number of young people from different parts of the country.

In an act led by Vice President Raquel Peña on behalf of President Luis Abinader, the scholarships are for undergraduate, postgraduate, master’s and doctorate degrees.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt)Dr. Franklin García Fermín, when giving the main speech, explained that for the granting of national scholarships this year, a call was opened from January 31 to February 22.

He indicated that in that period 80, 647 applicants were digitally registered, of which 64.5% are women and 35.5% are men.

“For the granting of international scholarships, we have had the participation of 65 higher education institutions from Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, United States, Spain, France, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, United Kingdom and Switzerland”, stressed.

He said that since the beginning of this administration, his efforts have been oriented towards the objective of substantially increasing the number of young people and adults with the necessary technical and professional skills. This in order that they can access, under equal conditions, jobs appropriate to their level of skills; with decent salaries and with an open window to more opportunities for the future.

The vice president said that with these scholarships, young people will be able to obtain decent jobs and spaces for entrepreneurship that are in line with this new vision of a country diversified in its sources of work.

“We ensure that we have competent and well-trained personnel who, through their experience, add value to the job they perform, to their own quality of life and that of their loved ones, thereby contributing to the development of the country,” he specified. the vice president.

He said that for the granting of the scholarships, President Abinader signed on September 15, 2021, Decree 549-21 by which the Executive Power instituted the National System of Scholarships and Educational Support Credit.

He maintains that with this decree, the management of scholarships in the country and those of foreign universities is unified. This represented a compelling need that we were able to respond to.

Minister García Fermín assured that the facilities given to students are made through a process of total transparency, as established in decree number 549-21, issued by President Luis Abinader, who instituted the National System of Scholarships and Support Credit Educational.

He indicated that with the creation of this system “the management of scholarships in the country and in foreign universities is unified and the granting of this benefit is made transparent.”

At the event, held at the Volleyball Pavilion, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, García Fermín said that “in this way the dispersion in which the State managed to grant scholarships from various ministries and general directorates is eliminated.”
