A 35-year-old man was arrested for selling drums filled with tap water. SBIreported Underlined and confirmed The Observer with the Chief of Police of Montevideo, Mario D’Elía.
The case began as a result of a complaint that was made in Punta de Rieles, because people from the neighborhood they began to have gastric problems and associated it with the sale of watersince everyone had bought from this man, reported Underlined.
According to the aforementioned media, the man was arrested in Ciudad de la Costa last week by the Police and they seized 100 drums with lids that were not original. In turn, they sent the water samples to a laboratory for analysis.
The man was summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office waiting for the investigation to continue.
This arrest occurs in the context of the increase in the salinity of the tap water that caused a rise in the sale of bottled water. Last Friday, many supermarkets and retail outlets were out of stock due to high demand and companies were experiencing distribution problems.

At the same time, the Coca Cola company, which produces Vitale brand waterreported on Friday that “a lag between the high requirement of the product and the production capacity and delivery” and stated that “the company is working hard to” keep up with consumer demand for bottled water.
In the case of Nativa, the company responded to The Observer via e-mail that it was working to cover the current demand and measures are being taken to increase production capacity “if the situation warrants it”.
