They accused a fan of Nacional who participated in the fight in which he died "The Washi"

Justice charged a National fan who was with Washington Omar Simón, known as “El Washi”, in the fight in which the barrabrava was killed. A week ago, four Peñarol fans had been charged with the crime: one for aggravated homicide and three for a brawl that resulted in death.

Simón was killed at the Vía Blanca fair on January 6, 2022, after a confrontation with the gold-black men. He died on the night of January 10. This barrabrava was sentenced for the crime of Hernán Fiorito, the Peñarol fan murdered in 2016 in Santa Lucía in the middle of the celebrations for the club’s anniversary.

Simón’s death later led, in retaliation, to the murder of a 17-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle on October 8 wearing a Peñarol shirt.

National fans during the match that his team faced Ñublense from Chile, Abdón Porte unfurled a banner in the tribune that said “El Gordo Washi del Skey presente”.

They also sang for a few moments a song that says “chicken we kill you” to Rodri and Hernán, two giles who for chickens sleep in a tube”.

the step by step

As reconstructed by the prosecutor in the case, Carlos Negro, three of the Peñarol defendants and a fourth person met at the corner of Rousseau and Comercio, from where they walked to a shoe store where they found another acquaintance. There they consumed alcohol, cocaine and marijuana.

Afterwards, they all went together to a picnic area a few blocks away –of which one of the defendants is in charge– and they removed some chairs to go to Vía Blanca, the traditional fair that takes place during the festivities on October 8. Near the point of sale of footwear, Simón and his girlfriend walked by, which generated the incident between the owner of the premises and the barrabrava of Nacional. The owner hit Simon in the face and he left with his girlfriend to a school a few blocks away, where they parted ways.

Then Simon returned to the place with a friend. Meanwhile, one of the defendants received a call from which he alerted his colleagues that they should return to the post. There, a confrontation broke out between bottles, knives and a firearm that the man who was later charged with murder had in his backpack.

The four defendants were wounded with knives and one of them shot Simón. The tricolor fan came to testify while he was hospitalized in CTI, where he died days later, on January 10.

The prosecutor stated that those named belong to the Peñarol brava gang in La Unión and he stressed that they were at a neighborhood fair “armed with a firearm”. Regarding the alleged perpetrator of the homicide, he stated that he had participated in altercations with members of Nacional in 2019, including in a women’s soccer match.

We are not talking just because. There are 43-year-olds and 18-year-olds for a reason. Not because they are neighbors. They will be neighbors, but they will also be football hooligans (…) They can kill and leave the country because they have organizations, smaller or larger, depending on the gang. But they have the means (…) What motivates these people is a T-shirt“, he concluded.
