He Paraguayan Senator Derlis Osorio testified before a prosecutor in his country that the Deputy Erico Galeano -through a intermediary– asked for US$ 500 thousand to free the Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastian Marset who was imprisoned in Dubai.
This was reported by Paraguay’s ABC media, which added that Osorio – a member of the Colorado Party – appeared before the specialized prosecutor’s office against Economic Crimes to expand a complaint he had previously made against deputy Galeano – a member of former President Horacio Cartes’ sector -, whom he accused of asking for money to release Marset.
Osorio, according to ABC, affirmed that a Galeano intermediary visited him at his house to ask him for money that he had to send to a Deportivo Capiatá player, in relation to the Uruguayan Marset. The senator assured that Galeano’s intermediary suggested that he ask President Mario Abdo Benítez for money.
The request, the senator said, was made at the end of 2021, before the results of the A Ultranza operation led by prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, who was murdered on his honeymoon, were known. Said investigation placed Marset as the leader of an international network of drug trafficking and money laundering.
Although he was not yet known for his role in drug trafficking, at that time Marset was detained in Dubai because he was carrying a false Paraguayan document.
