The US reminds Ortega that that country is Nicaragua's main oil supplier

The US Embassy in Nicaragua revealed that in 2021 the Government of Daniel Ortega bought 754.104 million dollars in oil and its derivatives from the United States, which represents 68% of consumption in the country.

Official figures again place the United States as the main supplier of oil. The diplomatic headquarters in Managua published a graphic on its Twitter account highlighting the importance of supplying this product to boost Nicaragua’s economy.

In addition, he pointed out that the importation of oil allows the Daniel Ortega regime to “sustain millions of jobs” in Nicaragua.

According to the Central Bank of Nicaragua, the Ortega government spent 1,116,369.3 million dollars on the import of oil and its derivatives in 2021.

The main suppliers of oil in that period were: the United States with 754,104 million dollars, followed by Ecuador with 90, 720 million dollars, El Salvador with 73, 146; Costa Rica with 60,595; Guatemala with 14,880 and Mexico with 11,137 million dollars, details the CIF Imports report by main trading partners, available at Web page of the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN).

Recently, the US delegation also reminded the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo that their country is the main issuer of remittances to Nicaragua with 63.8% and represents 11% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). “These funds put food on the table and are the livelihood of millions of Nicaraguans,” emphasized the US Embassy.

He also revealed that the United States is Managua’s main trading partner. “Nicaragua has a trade surplus with the US – $2,139 million in 2020, or 17% of GDP. Nicaragua sells more than it buys from the US, creating jobs and economic growth for Nicaragua,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Ortega attacks the United States in every speech he makes, calling them an “empire,” but he maintains close relations with Russia, a country that is carrying out a military invasion against Ukraine that has already killed hundreds of people. Ortega even endorsed the Kremlin’s decisions and that generated “concern” in North America.
