The Observer changes shareholders

cromo

On May 5, 2022, a group of investors led by Gerardo Werthein and Gabriel Hochbaum acquired shareholder control of the Uruguayan journalistic group The Observer. As a result of this change in control, Pablo Tarantino will assume the presidency of the group.

In this new stage, The Observer will continue to benefit from the experience of Ricardo Peirano, in his new role as journalistic director, and the talent, honesty and professionalism of the current journalistic staff.

The new shareholders are committed to investing heavily in digital innovation and in the generation of journalistic content to become a leading Spanish-speaking digital media outlet.

The purchasers state that they have “an enormous commitment to freedom of expression and access to information both in Uruguay and in the rest of the region.”
