The number of workers in unemployment insurance had a slight increase in May compared to the previous month. According to information released by the Ministry of Labor, in the fifth month of the year the beneficiaries were 46,501 with an increase of 6% compared to 43,947 in April.
With the data for May, the amount was once again within the average of the last semester that has oscillated between 46 thousand and 48 thousand workers. In the year-on-year comparison, a strong decrease of 42% was registered.
In the same month last year there were 80,000 people, taking into account the two types of subsidy: total unemployment insurance (52,342) and partial or flexible unemployment insurance (28,019).
In May 10,114 people entered the subsidy, approximately 1,000 more than the previous month and practically the same number as in March. Of the total, 4,540 entered unemployment insurance due to dismissal and 5,574 were due to reduction or suspension.
In the breakdown by activity items, the ministry reported that the May numbers showed a slight growth in the number of workers in insurance in most sectors. Activities linked to the tourist movement stood out, such as real estate activities, accommodation or food services and, on the other hand, the manufacturing industry.
