The number of confirmed cases of covid-19 in Nicaragua increased in the last week, reaching 20,130 since the pandemic was detected in the Central American country in March 2020, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday.

While the number of covid-19 patients increased, the number of deaths from the pandemic reported by the Ministry of Health has remained at 245 since the coronavirus was detected in Nicaragua.

The Nicaraguan health authorities reported that they have “attended and provided responsible and careful follow-up” to 15,425 people in the context of the pandemic.

They also noted that the people treated “frequently had associated conditions such as: arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, heart disease, immunodeficiency syndrome, chronic renal failure, a history of cerebrovascular accidents, pulmonary tuberculosis, and chronic lung diseases.”

In the same report, the Ministry of Health indicated that 15,091 Nicaraguans have survived the disease after contracting the coronavirus.

The Nicaraguan Executive has reported that 92% of the population over 2 years of age already have the complete vaccination schedule against covid-19, while 96% have at least one dose.

Nicaragua has not applied restrictive measures as part of the fight against the coronavirus since the pandemic began, which has earned it criticism from the World Health Organization (WHO).
