The Minister of Housing and Territorial Planning (MVOT), Irene Moreirawas present at the Second National Congress of Open Cabildo this Sunday, which was held in the Canarian town of Las Piedras, together with other important figures of the right-wing force such as her husband, Senator Guido Manini Ríos, and fellow Senator Guillermo Domenech.

After said party council, the hierarch spoke with the press about the situation of precarious housing or homelessness suffered by hundreds of thousands of people in the country. Asked by journalists about how much the settlements increased during and after the pandemic, she said she did not have the official number from the Ministry but that reports from the municipalities would indicate that “they did not increase that much.”

They estimate in the portfolio that there are between 600 and 650 settlements at present, and that said number is “controllable”.

“Settlement we consider from ten households. They did not (increase) as much as we would have expected, anticipating the pandemic that obviously affected us all, and precisely, the most fragile even more. But it is controllable, we are still within that number of between 600 and 650 settlements,” said the minister.

From the MVOT, he advanced, they now plan to “act in the 19 departments simultaneously, which is historic because it has not been done like this.”
