“I am very grateful to my friend, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, for this recognition. And I express my deep and endearing affection for the worthy people of Cuba. That is what I can express now, what comes from my heart », he said.
“I am going to confess something and apologize in advance. But one of the things that fills me with the most pride is that the men I admire a lot were born in the same year. Although in other centuries in which I was born. The father of our country, Miguel Hidalgo, was born in 1753. José Martí, who I admire a lot, I told you, was born in 1853 and in no way can I compare myself with those two giants. But I was born in 1953, so I am very grateful for this recognition, ”he said.
