The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) finalized the declaration of agricultural emergencyexclusively in the horticultural sector, in five areas of Paysandú and Salto that were affected by the storms that occurred between Friday, July 8 and Monday, July 11.
The measure, signed by interim minister Juan Ignacio Buffa, enables the use of the Emergency Agricultural Fund to support the affected producers.
The zones included are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sections in Paysandú and the 8th in Salto and the declaration will be valid for 60 days from this Tuesday, July 26.
Nicolás Chiesa, national director of the Farm, explained this Tuesday to The Observer that there are approximately 50 horticulturists who will be assistedwhich experienced damage of varying magnitude.
“The assistance will consider a case-by-case analysis, to provide a solution that is like a tailored suit for each one” of those producers, he specified.
In some cases, the ministry’s technicians will estimate the amount of damage to the property and the producer will be granted a credit, with a one-year grace period, in order to facilitate the prompt recomposition of the production system.
In others, for smaller producers, assistance will be channeled so that they can access nylon and wood and make the necessary repairs themselves.
Another key aspect, Chiesa considered, “is that We are going to work to generate adequate awareness of the value of being insured against these events.”, having that as a framework that the producers affected in this opportunity lacked that tool.
