The Mantra, by Aglaya Kinzbruner

The opposition had a mantra, ohmmm, Cessation of the Usurpation, Transitional Government and Transparent, Credible Elections and with Observation of the European Union, a savior, Juan Guaido and the recognition of 60 countries and what happened? That must be wondering Ursula von der Leyenpresident of the European Comission, in his perfect English, prettier than that of Rishi Suniak, a British citizen and prime minister who studied at Oxford. Her name Ursula comes from Latin and means bear cub or bear.

Surely he had a very good education because when he said the word credible with reference to our possible future elections, he gave the word a semantic load of irony that would make anyone’s hair stand on end and that denotes a person with excellent critical capacity. And he was absolutely right in the world because in Venezuela, things are rarely what they seem. Everyone agreed and then the magician comes and wham! he pulls the tablecloth and everything stays in place but without the tablecloth and the table looks dingy, ugly.

The mantra gradually frayed like a badly sewn hem. First the first part disappeared, cessation of the usurpation. It got further and further away on the horizon like some traveling cloud. Then the second part, transition government. Perhaps he went on vacation in a Chinese balloon, the kind that some see and others don’t. The mantra became an ayayay with the third part that no longer resembles a mantra but a hallaca. Everyone has their hand in.

Because last we have nothing less than the interference of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. The dark swallows will return / on your balcony their nests to hang / in his poem of love and spite, but not Don Gustavo, nor the dark ones, nor the aspiring striped ones, nor the very striped ones, we sincerely hope that, those will not return

There is a very interesting Japanese study on dogs in which it is demonstrated, beyond any doubt expressed by some cynic, that dogs know how to distinguish between a bad person and a good person. The latter will be treated with respect, a friendly wag of the tail and a pleasant doggy smile of goodwill. To the bad guys with an unfriendly raising of the upper lip with its consequent exposure of canines, gums and bad breath, so much so that if you don’t get caught by the shit, you get caught by the noseless one.

We refer to this in case the European Union does not get creative and get out of the subject of sanctions and the irony of what is “credible” could well be the Japanese experiment here but in reverse. In other words, the bad dog comes out to bite good people.

It would not hurt to remember what Francois Marie Arouet said, self-appointed (the Americans would interpret it as self-styled) voltaire about the kiss Voltaire was perhaps the most prominent member of the Enlightenment and we quote him here. “The danger of kissing consists in the fact that there is a nerve of the fifth pair that goes from the mouth to the heart and from there further down, since nature arranged everything with the most delicate industry… (Philosophical Dictionary) and later in the text he observes that in the animal species only turtledoves and doves kiss.

Bad news for swallows.
