Each political party may receive next year, as private financing, a maximum of 118.7 million pesos from its membership, in money or in kind.

The maximum contribution of supporters will be 42.9 million 963 thousand 332.50 pesos and the individual contribution limit will be 2.1 million, agreed the National Electoral Institute (INE).

This amount of private financing is added to the 6 thousand 300 million that the seven national political parties will receive, as a whole, as prerogatives, that is, public resources for the ordinary spending of these political groups.

Members of the General Council of the INE stressed that the control of the resources of political parties and candidacies is a job that has to be aligned with all the authorities of the Mexican State to prevent money of illicit origin from entering this area.

The approved document indicates that the private financing of the parties, under all its modalities, including self-financing and financial returns, may at no time exceed the amount of public financing.

Additionally, guidelines were approved to verify the origin of the contributions of militants and sympathizers during the electoral processes and in ordinary activities; For this purpose, questionnaires will be applied to assess the risk of possible irregularities in the contribution; for example, detecting when a person who contributes money to a party does not have the capacity to do so.

New electoral geography

The General Council also approved the new federal districting in the country, based on the 2020 population census; This new geographical framework will be used in the 2024, 2027 and 2030 elections. Although the number of districts at the national level does not vary (300), the number of residents in each electoral demarcation does change, to guarantee population balance. The local review on the matter was also concluded.

As a result of this lengthy review, it was reported that 20 entities in the country retain the number of districts compared to the previous scenario and, therefore, the number of relative majority deputies, while six entities grow in this aspect and another six decrease.

Preparations

On the other hand, the INE approved different bases for the 2023 elections, both the extraordinary one to elect a senator for Tamaulipas, as well as the constitutional ones for governor in the states of Mexico and Coahuila.

In principle, it was agreed that the voting credentials that expire on January 1 may be used in the aforementioned elections.

Steps were also taken for the election of polling place officials; In the extraordinary one of Tamaulipas, citizens whose paternal surname begins with G will be invited to participate, while for the state contests those born in December and January may integrate these tables.
