The Government proposed to teachers unions a wage floor of $70 thousand for this month

The National Government offered this Wednesday to the five teachers unions with national representation, in the context of the federal parity, a salary floor of $70 thousand pesos as of this month, of $75 thousand from November 1 and of $77,137 pesos to December 1, and proposed a monitoring and review clause of the agreement next November.

The Ministry of Education confirmed that Minister Jaime Perczyk proposed to the unions to raise the guaranteed national minimum wage to $70,000 pesos this month and to $77,137 since December, and stated in a document that the unions will define this Thursday if they accept the offer.

The educational portfolio also proposed review the agreement in November and grant a sum of $5,634 pesos from this month as an additional amount for “educational material and connectivity” and $6,173 pesos from next December, the statement said.

“The commitment is to defend public education and the salaries of workers, teachers and professors. The commitment and the political will of the Government is that salaries recover and beat the inflationary process,” Perczyk pointed out.

Union spokespersons told Télam that it was determined that next October the parties will open the Negotiating Commission on the Teaching Framework Agreementbut the unions indicated this afternoon that they will evaluate the proposal before waiting for a new official call to respond to the formal offer and continue the negotiations.

Those same spokesmen maintained that no date for a new meeting was determined to continue the negotiations and that there is only a fourth intermission to study the offer.

Union sources reported that in December 2021 the teacher’s salary floor was $40,000 pesos for the newly started, that is, for the simple day of a teacher.

In June the tranches agreed upon in February had been brought forward (45.45 percent), so teachers received a floor of $55,000 pesos in June, $60,000 from July, and $64,000 from September 1, and now the guilds received the new official offer.
